Williams Advances in 200m Dash at U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials

EUGENE, Ore. - The 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials - Track & Field continued Friday evening at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., with four members of the Arizona State University program competing, including two in finals of their distance events, although neither were able to finish among the Top 3 in their races to advance to Beijing.

Charonda Williams, a junior on the squad, clocked a time of 23.37 to place 18th overall in the qualifying round of the 200m dash and will advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday. Brad Roth, who recently completed his senior season at ASU, threw the javelin 66.11m (216-11) in the qualifying round to place 20th overall and will not advance.

Back on the track, Amy Hastings clocked in at 16:07.03 to finish 14th overall in the final of the women's 5,000m run while Fasil Bizuneh placed 15th in the men's 10,000m run final in 28:43.11.

Saturday will see four Sun Devils compete, including Williams in the quarterfinals of the 200m dash. Also competing will be Jessica Pressley and Sarah Stevens in the women's shot put final and Kyle Alcorn in the men's 3,000m steeplechase final.
