Francis Just Three Back at John Deere Classic

UCLA sophomore Philip Francis was tied for 15th place following the first round of the PGA Tour's John Deere Classic in Silvis, IL Thursday.

Playing on a sponsor's exemption, Francis needed just 26 putts and fired a round of 67 (-4) over the 7,257-yard course. He made six birdies, two bogeys, 10 pars and ranked among the leaders in driving distance at 302 yards.

Ken Duke fired an opening round 64 (-7) to take the first round lead.
