UW Assistant to Help Coach Team USA

July 10, 2008

SEATTLE -

University of Washington volunteer assistant swimming coach Sean Hutchison was named one of five coaches of the 2008 U.S. Olympic women's swim team that will compete in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.

USA Swimming announced the 43-member U.S. Olympic swim team following the conclusion of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb., last week and also named the coaching staff this week.

Hutchison, who has coached Husky standout Ariana Kukors at King Aquatic Club, joins women's head coach Jack Bauerle and fellow assistants Paul Yetter and Teri McKeever along with women's open water coach Bill Rose.

Kukors, who had a record-breaking freshman campaign in 2007-08 at UW, just missed a berth in the Olympics last week at the U.S. Olympic Trials, finishing third in the 200-meter individual medley and sixth in both the 400 IM and the 200-meter breaststroke. The top two in those three races qualified for the Olympics.

The entire U.S. Olympic swim team is in Palo Alto, Calif., this week for the team's domestic training camp prior to its departure to the Olympics in Beijing. The Olympic pool competition will take place Aug. 9 through Aug. 17 at the Beijing National Aquatic Center. The women's and men's 10K Olympic marathon swim will take place on Aug. 20 and 21 at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park in Beijing, China.
