LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of Arizona football team has been chosen to finish seventh in the Pacific-10 Conference in a preseason poll of West Coast media members who regularly cover the league, the league announced on Thursday. Head Coach Mike Stoops was accompanied by senior quarterback Willie Tuitama at the Pac-10 Media Day festivities.

Five-time defending conference champion USC has been tabbed as the favorite to win the title once again, followed by 2007 co-champion Arizona State. Oregon, California and UCLA round out the top five. Oregon State edges out the Wildcats for sixth, while Washington, Stanford and Washington State are slotted No. 8-10.

The Wildcats, who were chosen to finish seventh in the 2007 preseason poll, are coming off a sixth place conference finish (5-7, 4-5). For a second straight year, UA improved its standing late in the year, winning three consecutive games in November (at Washington, vs. UCLA, vs. Oregon) before dropping the season finale to Arizona State.

This year, Arizona returns 10 starters on offense, including Tuitama, a 2007 Pac-10 Honorable mention selection. Tuitama will be able to rely on a bevy of talented players around him, including 2007 First Team All-Pac-10 wide receiver Mike Thomas, Freshman All-American tight end Rob Gronkowski and tackle Eben Britton, a 2008 Outland Trophy watch list member.

Arizona will play seven of its 12 games at home in Arizona Stadium, including five Pac-10 foes. The Wildcats posted a 4-2 record at home in 2007, including November victories over Oregon and UCLA - two schools slated ahead of the Wildcats in this year's preseason poll. The other four teams selected ahead of Arizona (No. 1 USC, No. 2 ASU, No. 4 California and No. 6 Oregon State) each visit the Old Pueblo this fall.

The Wildcats will kick off the 2008 season against Idaho on Saturday, August 30 at 7 p.m. in Arizona Stadium. The Wildcats will open Fall Camp with their first official practice on Monday, August 4th.
