Lynch Promoted to Assistant Commissioner; Emmons and Verlengiere Named Communications Interns

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- The Pacific-10 Conference has promoted Kathy Lynch to Assistant Commissioner for Business and Finance, and named Maggie Emmons and Gina Verlengiere communications interns for 2008-09, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

A native of Sayre, Pa., Lynch is a 1994 graduate of Nazareth College with a degree in accounting. She also received a master's of business administration from the University of Notre Dame in 2003. Lynch assists in all financial areas of Conference operations, managing the monthly closing process and financial reporting, and maintaining the general ledger. She joined the Pac-10 staff in October 2007. Previously, she was on the athletics staff at the University of Maryland and Pace University in New York.

'Ms. Lynch's promotion to Assistant Commissioner for Business and Finance rewards her for the fine work she has done since joining our staff and reflects the dynamic growth in the Conference's business affairs,' said Hansen. 'Not only has the Conference budget grown, but the cash flow which that department handles is very large. It also is responsible for considerable activity settling the finances for Conference championships.

'Her excellent background in finance has prepared her to handle these assignments. She was a welcome addition to our staff and is a real asset to it.'

Originally from Champaign, Ill., Emmons is a 2008 graduate of Arizona State University with a degree in political science. While in college, she served as a media relations intern in the Sun Devil athletic department where she provided public relations support for 13 intercollegiate sports, including football and men's and women's basketball.

Emmons served as the men's and women's golf contact for four years while at ASU. She coordinated the media events for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 ASU/PING Intercollegiate, the 2007 and 2008 ASU/Thunderbird Invitational and the 2007 NCAA men's golf West Regional.

Hailing from Santa Maria, Calif., Verlengiere is a 2007 graduate of Arizona State University with a degree in journalism and mass communications. She worked in the ASU media relations office for nearly three years as both an undergraduate intern and graduate assistant. While in college, she served as the assistant women's soccer contact.

As a graduate assistant, Verlengiere was the assistant media coordinator at the 2008 NCAA men's basketball West Regional. Her duties included compiling the regional media guide for the NCAA, producing the media seating chart and managing the statistics and quotes production and distribution at the event.
