Bryan-Amaning Drops 41 In Euro Championships

TARGU MURES, Romania - Matthew Bryan-Amaning continued to shine as a member of the Great Britain U20 National Team Thursday when dropped a game-high 41 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a high-scoring loss to the Czech Republic at the U20 European Basketball Championships.
Bryan-Amaning, a rising sophomore forward for the University of Washington men's basketball team, scored nearly one-half of his team's points in the first half with 20 points and five rebounds in a matchup against the winners of the tournament's Group G pool. With the loss, Great Britain finished third in the group and will play in the 13th-16th place bracket to conclude the tournament this weekend.
A native of London, Bryan-Amaning went 16-for-28 from the field, finished the game with a 57 percent shooting percentage and shot 9-for-12 from the free throw line. He also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and blocked four shots.
Following group play, he leads his team and is second among all players in the 35-team tournament with three double-doubles (points-rebounds) and ranks fourth in blocked shots with 1.7 per game. He is among the top-12 players in the event with averages of 17.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. His 41-point outburst was the second-highest total in the event, which determines the U20 European champion.

Bryan-Amaning is one of eight returning letterwinners for Coach Lorenzo Romar's talented Husky basketball squad this fall. As a freshman, he played in 33 games and started three. Bryan-Amaning averaged 4.2 points and 3.0 points per game and scored a career-high 12 points twice during the season.
Washington takes the floor for the first time to open the 2008-09 season on Thursday, Nov. 6 with an exhibition game against Western Washington. The Huskies open the regular-season on the road with a Nov. 15 game at Portland before hosting the first two rounds of the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic on Nov. 17 and 19 in Bank of America Arena.
