Four Cats to Play in U.S. Amateur Championship

TUCSON, Ariz. - Four golfers with University of Arizona ties will compete in the 2008 United States Amateur Championship, Aug. 18-24, at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in Village of Pinehurst, N.C.
Neal, a senior from Tucson, will be making his third consecutive U.S. Amateur Championship appearance, having earned berths in 2006 and 2007. He played in all 12 team events for Arizona last season and posted a 74.26 scoring average. He collected two top-20 finishes in 2007-08, including a win at the Wolf Pack Classic in October.
Galletti, a sophomore from Clayton, Calif., will make his second career U.S. Amateur Championship appearance, two years removed from his first. He tallied four top-20 finishes a year ago and ranked fifth on the team with a 73.24 scoring average. Eleven of his 29 rounds played were at par or better.
Miller, sophomore from Houston, Texas, will make his first appearance at the U.S. Amateur. As a freshman, Miller made six starts (17 rounds) and posted a 75.94 scoring average. His best finish was a tie for 24th place at the WNMU Cactus Thaw in February.
McDaniel, a Tucson native, was a member of the golf program in 2004-05.
The 2008 U.S. Amateur Championship is the ninth United States Golf Association championship to be contested at the facility, and the second Amateur Championship (1962). The event will be contested over Pinehurst's No. 2 and No. 4 courses. Both courses are par 70, while the No. 2 course covers 7,281 yards, while the No. 4 covers 7,030 yards.
Two rounds of stroke play will be contested Aug. 18-19 before the field is cut to the low 64 scores for match play.
