UA Olympic Update
Aug. 19, 2008
UA Olympic Notes for Tuesday, Aug. 19** After a slow start, the U.S. baseball team is on a bit of a roll. The Americans defeated Chinese Taipei, 4-2, in preliminary action to earn its third straight win. The U.S. moved to 4-2 in the Olympic tournament. Shortstop Jason Donald went 1-for-2 with a walk, stolen base and an RBI in the contest. Incidentally, Donald is hitting .385 in his five Olympic appearances.
** If you are interested in getting your money's worth in a single event at the Olympics, try catching a U.S. women's volleyball match. Each of the team's last three matches have been 3-2 victories and each has lasted better than two hours. The most recent effort against Italy in the quarterfinals - game scores were 20-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-18 and 15-6 - placed the team in the medal round. UA's Kim Glass tallied eight points to go with six kills in the win. Next up for the U.S. in the semifinals: Cuba, the lone squad to defeat the Americans in this tournament.
