Aug. 28, 2008
NEW YORK - Recent UCLA graduates Tracy Lin and Riza Zalameda posted a first-round victory in one of the world's biggest tournaments on Thursday, teaming together for a straight-set win in the U.S. Open women's doubles draw.
Lin and Zalameda, who received a wild card entry into the event by winning the NCAA Doubles title in May, defeated Spain's Arantxa Parra Santonja/Carla Suarez Navarro, 6-3, 6-4 on Thursday. That victory sets up a meeting against Stephanie Foretz and Camille Pin of France in Friday's second round.
Zalameda was also competing in the U.S. Open's mixed doubles draw with Kaes Van't Hof, however the duo lost in the first round to Vladimira Uhlirova and Martin Damm of the Czech Republic, 6-4, 3-6, (10-8) on Wednesday evening.
