Sun Devil Track & Field Announces Open Tryouts

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arizona State University track and field program, winners of the Men’s and Women’s 2008 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, will be holding open tryouts for the 2009 season, Director of Track & Field Greg Kraft announced today. The tryouts will be held at 4 p.m. on both September 17 and September 18 at Sun Angel Stadium on campus.
Those interested in trying out for the teams must first stop by the Sun Devil Track & Field office to pick up a purple form that needs to be filled out, completed and one copy of the form returned to the coaching staff NO LATER than September 16. The track and field office is located on the second floor of the Carson Student-Athlete Center, which is located on the south end of Sun Devil Stadium (football stadium).
On September 17 and 18, each athlete trying out should be warmed-up and ready to go at 4 p.m. sharp at the common start-finish line on the track at Sun Angel Stadium (located on Packard Drive between the baseball and tennis venues). Starting at 4 p.m., each athlete will do the following:
- Test #1: standing long jump (3 trials)
- Test #2: 30-meter sprint from a stand (2 trials)
- Test #3: 30-meter sprint with a 20-meter fly (2 trials)
- Test #4 (throwers only): javelin (softball throw), shot put (throw shot), discus (throw discus)
Note: shot put/discus throwers will not run any of the 30-meter trials
- Test #5: 45 second run (run as far as you can in 45 seconds)
Following the two-days of tests, the coaching staff will make cuts and will then post a list of acceptance/cuts on the Sun Devil Track & Field office door no later than 3 p.m. on September 19.
