Baseball Announces Enrollees For 2009 Season

LOS ANGELES -- A total of 14 freshmen and one transfer have enrolled at USC and will be eligible to play in the 2009 baseball season, head coach Chad Kreuter announced today.
The freshmen are: infielder Ryan Bast (Upland/Upland HS), infielder Shane Boras (Newport Coast/Junipero Serra HS), first baseman Beau Brett (Spokane, Wash./Ferris HS), left-handed pitcher Danny Coulombe (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral HS), left-handed pitcher/infielder Brad Douthit (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain HS), catcher/outfielder Brandon Garcia (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman HS), outfielder Colin Hoffman (San Diego/St. Augustine HS), infielder Ashton Kent (Tucson, Ariz./Catalina Foothill HS), pitcher Ben Mount (Coto de Caza/Tesoro HS), first baseman/third baseman/pitcher Ricky Oropesa (Rancho Cucamonga/Etiwanda HS), catcher Kevin Roundtree (Glendora/Crescenta Valley HS), outfielder/pitcher Alex Sherrod (Marietta, Ga./Walton HS), right-handed pitcher Chad Smith (Thousand Oaks/Thousand Oaks HS) and outfielder Greg Zebrack (North Hollywood/Campbell Hall HS).
Left-handed pitcher Alex Levin (Portland, Ore./Lower Columbia CC) is the lone transfer in the class.
The enrolled class includes seven players that were drafted in the 2008 major league baseball draft: Coulombe (17th round, Los Angeles Dodgers), Oropesa (24th round, Boston), Garcia (28th round, Milwaukee), Brett (29th round, Kansas City), Boras (35th round, St. Louis), Zebrack (43rd round, Los Angeles Dodgers), Hoffman (50th round, Florida).
USC will open the 2009 season on Feb. 20 against Long Beach State.
