Men's Golf Releases 2008-09 Schedule
Sept. 4, 2008
STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford men's golf team released its tournament schedule for the 2008-09 season today. The Cardinal will participate in four tournaments this fall and six in the spring on its quest to win its second NCAA Championship in three years.
The only change in event participation from last season to this season, is that Stanford will not be traveling to Japan for the Topy Cup, as they did in early September 2007, and will instead add the Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. at the end of March 2009 to their agenda.
The Cardinal will begin competition the weekend before the academic year at The Farm kicks off, traveling to Chicago for the Fighting Illini Invitational held at Olympia Fields from Sept. 19-21.
Stanford will play host for two tournaments this year, one in the fall and one in the spring. The Cardinal is co-hosting The Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif. with UC Davis Oct. 13-14, and hosting the U.S. Intercollegiate at the Stanford University Golf Course from April 18-19.
In the fall, Stanford will also participate in the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational (Windermere, Fla.) and the CordeValle Classic (San Martin, Calif.). In the spring, the Cardinal will again travel to Hawaii for the Taylor Made Waikoloa in January and will attend the Ashworth Collegiate Invitational (Westlake Village, Calif.), and the United States Collegiate Championship (Alpharetta, Ga.).
This year's Pac-10 Championships are slated to be played at the Seattle Golf Club in Washington. West regional qualification for the NCAA Championships will be held May 14-16 at a site to be determined later. Stanford is looking to qualify for its third straight trip to the NCAA Championships, set to be played at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
The Cardinal loses one key senior from the 2007-08 squad, Rob Grube, but will welcome back eight letterwinners, including rising sophomore and All-American Sihwan Kim as well as underclassman Joseph Bramlett, who missed a majority of last season with an injury. Stanford will add two newcomers this season, David Chung, Golfweek's fourth-ranked national recruit, and Wilson Bowen, Junior Golf Scoreboard's fifth-ranked recruit in the state of Illinois.
