Wildcats drop first match of 2008 Fall to Santa Clara in four sets The Arizona volleyball team lost its first match of the season and broke a four-game win streak when it fell to Santa Clara Friday night 3-1 in the McKale Center as part of the Arizona Invitational.
The Wildcats (4-1) played four close games with the visiting Broncos but could muster only one set win, the first. Scores ended 24-26, 25-19, 25-23 and 25-20.
Santa Clara outhit the Wildcats with a .241 hitting percentage compared to Arizona's .128.
As a team, the Wildcats committed 31 attack errors compared to just 17 by the Broncos and that doomed them.
Santa Clara's Brittany Lowe led all players with 18 kills and added 10 digs for a double-double.
Arizona is now 1-1 after the first day of the Arizona Invitational and the team will close out the tournament tomorrow against Texas Tech at 12:30 p.m. in McKale.
