Stanford Well-Represented In Preseason ITA Rankings

STANFORD, Calif.- Stanford women's tennis is well-represented in the preseason edition of the ITA national rankings, with five players ranked in singles and two doubles teams also recognized.
Sophomore Hilary Barte checks in at the No. 4 spot following an impressive rookie campaign. The 2008 ITA National Rookie of the Year, Barte posted a team-best 30-8 overall mark while finishing 22-4 in duals. She became the first freshman in school history to win at least 30 overall matches and 20 duals since 2004 when Theresa Logar posted a 38-4 overall mark and was 27-0 in dual match action. Barte earned a final No. 4 national ranking and was the third seed at the NCAA Singles Championship.
A pair of two-time All-Americans, senior Jessica Nguyen holds down the No. 13 position and junior Lindsay Burdette is ranked No. 48. Nguyen closed out her season at 28-10 overall and 17-5 in dual match play while competing primarily at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. One of eight No. 9-16 seeds in the NCAA Singles Championship draw, Nguyen received a final national ranking of No. 16. Burdette was 23-14 overall and 17-8 in dual match play. She concluded the year with a final national ranking of No. 65.
In doubles, the team of Barte and Burdette was awarded a No. 5 ranking. Barte and Burdette served as the Cardinal's top doubles team last year and finished with a final national ranking of No. 9 while earning an at-large invite to the NCAA Doubles Championship. Senior Jessica Nguyen and incoming freshman Logan Hansen are ranked No. 42.
Stanford begins its season Oct. 1 at the ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
