WSU Men's Golf in third, Tucker Leads Cougars at Falcon Invite

USAFA, Colo.- The Cougars got their season off to a great start at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite Saturday, led by junior Kevin Tucker, who is tied for second headed into Sunday's final round. Tucker posted an opening-round score of 72 (E) at the 7,301-yard, par-72 Eisenhower Golf Club's Blue Course. The Kennewick, Wash., native shot the second-lowest score of his WSU career with a 67 (-5) in the second round, and finished with a total of 139 (-5). 'Tucker played great, he had 11 birdies and an eagle in 36 holes,' WSU head coach Walt Williams said. As a team the Cougars posted a two-round total of 578 (+2) and enter Sunday's third round in third place. Junior Nick Grigsby got off to a great start as well, opening with scores of 71 (-1) and 73(+1). Grigsby is even with a two-round total of 144 and is in a tie for 11th. Junior Austin Hurt shot 147 (+3), sophomore Nick Ellis posted a 152 (+8), and freshman Trent Sanders carded a 155 (+11) to wrap up the Cougar scorers. 'Trent really struggled in the first round but came back very strong in the afternoon,' Williams said. 'Grigsby and Hurt were solid.' As a team the Cougars posted a two-round total of 578 (+2) and enter Sunday's third round in third place. WSU will begin the third round tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. Final round results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com. 'It's a great opportunity for our guys to play in the lead group tomorrow with some traditionally strong teams. We're excited!' Williams said.
