Sept. 7, 2008

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Elysse Van Leer's second half goal provided Washington State with a 1-1 tie against No. 13 West Virginia in nonconference women's soccer at the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic, Sunday.

Van Leer's tally was the second of her WSU (1-1-3) career and came at 54:26 when she pounced on a loose ball after West Virginia (3-1-1) goalkeeper Kerri Butler stopped an intial shot from Emma Stolz.

The Mountaineers took a 1-0 lead at 47:34 when Deana Evertt scored off a header from Morgan Betscher. With less than two minutes left in regulation, Cougar goalkeeper Lindsay Parlee made a pair of saves to preserve the tie and force overtime. Parlee was impressive making eight saves as West Virginia outshot Washington State 24-9.

The Cougars' best chance for victory came about three minutes into the first overtime when Kiersten Dallstream chipped a ball passed Butler than went just wide.

Washington State travels to UC Santa Barbara, Friday, Sept. 12 for a 7 p.m. match.
