Sanchez And Maualuga Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week
Sept. 15, 2008
USC quarterback Mark Sanchez and Trojan linebacker Rey Maualuga were named today (Sept. 15) as the Pac-10 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, based on their performances in top-ranked USC's decisive 35-3 win over No. 5 Ohio State.
Sanchez tied a career-high by throwing 4 touchdown passes while completing 17-of-28 passes (.607) for 172 yards. He connected on scoring passes covering 35, 1, 17 and 24 yards. It marks the second time in as many games that he has been selected for Pac-10 offensive honors.
Maualuga returned an interception 48 yards for a touchdown and also posted 5 tackles. The USC defense kept Ohio State out of the end zone and limited the Buckeyes to 207 yards of total offense (71 rushing, 136 passing) while getting 3 turnovers and 5 quarterback sacks.
Also honored by the Pac-10 was Oregon placekicker Matt Evensen as Special Teams Player of the Week.
