Men's Golf Heads To Chicago For The Illini Invitational.

The ninth ranked ASU Men's golf team opens up the Fall season Friday in Chicago at the Olympia Fields/Illini Initational. The tournament, hosted by the University of Illinois, is being played at the Olympia Fields Golf Club which has hosted 16 major championships. This 54-hole event features 15 of the nation's top teams including three from the top five spots in the rankings. Along with ASU, UCLA (1), Oklahoma State (2), Stanford (5) and Florida State (11) round out the field. The tournament begins at 8 a.m. Friday and continues through Sunday. The teams will compete on the 7,157 yard North Course for all three rounds.
ASU, returning five of it`s six players from the Pac-10 championship team, is fielding a new lineup for the first event. The lineup will include: Jesper Kennegard (Klippan, Sweeden), Stephen Gross (Leiman, Germany), Chan Kim (Chandler, Ariz.), Jed Dirksen (Hampton, Iowa) and Scott Pinckney (Anthem, Ariz.). Chan Kim, a Chandler Hamilton graduate, is having his first start for the Sun Devils.
Defending champion Oklahoma State is back again this season looking to defend their title. In 2006, former Sun Devil Niklas Lemke was the first ASU player to win the Illini Invitational.
