Women's Tennis Wraps Day Two of Georgia Tech Invitational
Sept. 20, 2008
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Sun Devil Women’s Tennis team rolled into Day Two of the Georgia Tech Invitational Saturday which saw ASU claim a perfect sweep in doubles on the day as well as the return to form for Kelcy McKenna to wrap up the second day of the three day tournament.
The Devil doubles duos kicked-off the day by setting the tone as they faced off against Princeton in the early morning matches. Laila Abdala and Sienna Simmons were the first to take home a win snagging a solid 8-4 win over the Tigers team of Huah/McHale. Ashlee Brown and Ali Van Horne followed them up with a 9-7 win, while Kelcy McKenna and Micaela Hein hung tough and emerged with the W in a gritty 9-8 (8-6) win over Princeton’s Taylor Marable and Hillary Barlett to seal the sweep.
Singles slated the Sun Devils against the talented Georgia squad where Kelcy McKenna led the charge, toppling Georgia’s Yvette Hyndman in a decisive 6-3, 6-2 straight sweep. The rest of the Sun Devils didn’t fare as well though with only Ashlee Brown pushing her match all the way to three sets, but ultimately falling to Monika Dancevic of the Bulldogs.
