WSU Men Tied for First at Giustina Memorial Classic

CORVALLIS, Ore.- Washington State University's men's golf team finished strong after playing two rounds today at the par-72, 7,030-yard Trysting Tree Golf Club. The Cougars posted a team score of 565 (-11), placing them in a tie first with San Francisco.

'The men shot an incredible 275 (-13), to move into a tie for first,' WSU Head Coach Walt Williams said.

Atop of the leader board are junior Nick Grigsby and sophomore Nick Ellis. Grigsby enters the final round as the tournament leader with a two-round score of 139 (-5). The Spokane, Wash., native, who finished in the top 10 at last year's Giustina Memorial, fired an opening-round 70 (-2) and followed with a second-round 69 (-3). He had two eagles on the day.

Ellis is in a four-way tie for second place with a 4-under 140, posting 72 (E) in the first round and 68 (-4) in the second round.

Freshman Trent Sanders is also in the top 10, finishing day one in a tie for sixth place after posting scores of 74 (+2) and 67 (-5).

Juniors Kevin Tucker and Austin Hurt each shot 145 (+1) and currently sit in a tie for 28th. WSU will begin the final round tomorrow with tee-times starting at 7:45 a.m. Final round results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com.

'We are looking forward to playing in final pairing tomorrow with Oregon,' said Williams.
