Stanford Baseball Announces 2009 Schedule

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford baseball program, which made its 16th trip to the College World Series in 2008, has announced its 56-game 2009 regular season schedule. The slate includes 27 Pacific-10 Conference games and 33 home contests at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond.
Stanford's 2009 schedule features a total of 25 games against nine 2008 NCAA Tournament teams: Arizona, Arizona State, California, Cal State Fullerton, San Diego, Texas, UC Davis, UCLA and Vanderbilt.
Head Coach Mark Marquess will begin his 33rd season at the helm of the Cardinal with four home games the weekend of February 20-22 against Southeastern Conference power Vanderbilt (Friday and Saturday) and UC Riverside (Sunday doubleheader). Other highlights of the Sunken Diamond schedule include a three-game weekend series with traditional power Texas (March 6-8), midweek games against West Coast Conference foes Saint Mary's, Santa Clara, San Diego and USF, and Pac-10 weekend sets against Washington, UCLA, Arizona and Oregon State.
Stanford will return to the site of its 2008 Super Regional victory when it travels to Cal State Fullerton for a three-game series February 27-March 1. The Cardinal will also face stiff road tests in Pac-10 play at California, Arizona State, Washington State and USC. Stanford will also travel to Eugene, Ore. the weekend of April 3-5 as the Ducks field a baseball team for the first time in 28 years.
The 63rd annual College World Series is scheduled to be played from June 13-23/24, 2009 at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb.
Stanford baseball boasts a long and storied tradition, one which includes 20 conference championships (18 in the Pac-10), 28 NCAA Tournament appearances, 15 Regional titles, six Super Regional crowns, 16 College World Series trips and a pair of national titles.
