Men's Golf takes sixth at NCAA Preview

The ASU Men’s Golf Team took a sixth place finish at the 20th annual PING/Golfweek Preview on Tuesday. The tournament was played at the par-71, 7,255-yard Inverness Club and served as a preview for the 2009 NCAA Championships. The Sun Devils finished 18-over 870 with a low of 286 in the third round.

Sophomore Jesper Kennegard, a honorable mention All-American last year, tied for fifth at 2-under 211 and gained his sixth career top-10 finish. Freshman Chan Kim tied for 17th at 4-over 217, while sophomore Stephan Gross finished 6-over 219 tied for 24th and sophomore Scott Pinckney was 16-over 229 tied for 57th. Junior Braxton Marquez finished 19-over 232 and tied for 62nd.

Oklahoma State took first and was the only team to finish under par, ending the tournament 9-under 843 with a low of 277 in the second round. Morgan Hoffman (Oklahoma State) and Robin Wingardh (Tennessee) tied for first at 6-under 207. A total of nine players finished under par. The Devils will now look forward to next year when they go to Kona, Hawaii for the Big Island Invitational Feb. 4, 2009.
