WSU Men's Golf Finish in Seventh at Husky Invite

Bremerton, Wash. - Washington State University's men's golf team moved up one position in the final day to take seventh place at the par-72, 7,111-yard Gold Mountain Golf Club's Olympic Course.
Junior Austin Hurt led the Cougars throughout the tournament. He finished the first day of play with a score of 149 (+5), placing him in a tie for 22nd place. In the final day he moved up six places after posting a final-round score of 73 (+1). Hurt finished with a total of 222 (+6), placing him in a tie for 16th place.
The Cougars finished with a final-round score of 290 (+2) to finish ahead of Pacific-10 Conference rival Oregon State and UC Davis, which was ranked 21st according to golfweek.com. The Cougar men finished with a final team score of 892 (+28).
'Passing OSU is a good boost of confidence after they passed us in the final round last week,' said WSU Head Coach Walt Williams.
Junior Kevin Tucker posted an even-par score in the final round to move up 14 spots and finished in a tie for 29th place.
Freshman Trent Sanders wrapped up the Cougar scorers with the best final round of the team. Sanders shot a third-round score of 70 (-2), finishing with 230 (+14).
'We had a very good day, Trent played very well,' said Williams. 'We had one of the best scores of the day as did Trent.'
Next up for the Cougars is the Desert Intercollegiate Oct. 4, in Palm Desert,Calif.
