Kelcy McKenna Advances In ITA All-American Championships

Oct. 2, 2008

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The lone Sun Devil representing Arizona State Women's Tennis fared well Thursday in Los Angeles, Calif. as Kelcy McKenna collected her fifth consecutive singles win over Vanderbuilt's Catherine Newman to advance to the Round of 16 to be played on Friday.

McKenna started off the tournament right on Thursday morning as she stepped up to face-off against qualifier, Catherine Newman of Vanderbuilt. While McKenna held a steady lead through the first set to collect a 6-4 win, the Commodore wasn't complacent going quietly though, ralling through the second set. In the end though McKenna proved too much to handle as she walked away with a 7-5 win in the second to take the win and advance to tomorrow's round of 16.

McKenna will join the fray again tomorrow, this time against Arkansas's Aurelija Miseviciute, who is also the tournament's one-seed, slating McKenna for a tough match-up tomorrow as the ITA All-American Championships continue.
