Oct. 5, 2008
PETALUMA, Calif. - Stanford men's rowing opened its 2008-09 season with a dominating performance Sunday at the Wine Country Rowing Classic in Petaluma. With boats competing in the collegiate four and collegiate eight events, Stanford captured gold in both draws, highlighted by a sweep of the top three places in the collegiate four event.
Sunday's racing got underway for the Cardinal right off the bat, as the collegiate 4+ led off the regatta at 8:30 a.m. The three Stanford boats turned in the three fastest times on the 5,000-meter course along the Petaluma River between U.S. 101 and CA-116. The Cardinal sweep was paced by the gold medal-winning boat of coxswain Amelia Carr, Aaron Frankl, Mark Murphy, Alex Osborne, and Alec Levy.
Later in the morning, the collegiate eight got underway, as the Cardinal Eight plowed their way through the field, crossing the line in a time of 17:07, which marked the day's fastest time at the regatta. Coxed by Miguel Sugay, the winning Stanford boat consisted of Alex Osborne, Mark Murphy, Tyler Scott, Sebastian Peterlin, Alex Syverson, David Evans, Aaron Frankl and Alec Levy.
