Tucker Tied for Tournament Champion

Oct. 5, 2008

Palm Desert, Calif. - The Washington State men's golf team was led by Junior Kevin Tucker, who grabbed the first win of his WSU career.

Tucker opened with a first-round score of 70 (-2), and shot 71 (-1) in the second round. Tucker posted a final-round even-par score to finish in a tie for first place with Daniel Wax (Denver). Time did not allow for a play-off, thus Wax received the first place trophy after posting a final-round score of 68 (-4).

Tucker is the 10th player in school history to have six career top 10 finishes.

'I'm really happy for Kevin, he's been knocking on the door on several occasions so it is great to see him get that first win!' said WSU Head Coach Walt Williams.

Junior Austin Hurt finished the day tied for 37th place. Hurt shot a three-round total of 229 (+13). Sophomore Nick Ellis carded a 230 (+14). Xavier Dailly posted a three-round score of 232 (+16), and Trent Sanders wrapped up the Cougar scorers with a 238 (+22).

The Cougars shot a final-round 294 to move up two places. The men finished with a final team score of 896 (+32), and in sole possession of fifth place, ahead of Pacific-10 Conference rival Arizona and only three strokes behind Oregon State

'We played pretty solid today, we moved up a few spots, I'm pretty pleased with the final round,' said Williams.

Next up for the Cougars is the Sycuan Collegiate Oct. 20, in San Diego, Calif.
