Oct. 7, 2008
BOSTON, Mass. - Adding another chapter to his storybook rookie season, Stanford's Jed Lowrie '05 sent his Red Sox to the ALCS with a game-winning, two-out, RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth that gave Boston a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels in Game Four of the ALDS.
With the game tied at 2-2, Lowrie's single through the right side of the infield off the Angels' Scot Shields scored Jason Bay from second base and put Boston a step closer to its second consecutive World Series title and third in the last four years.
The Red Sox will now face the AL East champion Tampa Bay Rays in the 2008 American League Championship Series. Game One is scheduled for Friday, October 10 at 5:37 p.m. PT from Tropicana Field in Tampa, Fla.
Lowrie, who hit .297 (22-for-74) with runners in scoring position during the regular season, went 4-for-11 (.364) overall in three games of the ALDS.
