Nordqvist Helps Sweden Get Off To Quick Lead at World Amateur

Arizona State junior Anna Nordqvist got off to a fast start at the 2008 World Amateur Team Championships held at Grange Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia, Oct. 8-11. The two-time All-American was in second after the first day finishing at 3-under 70 on the par-73 East Course. Nordqvist and compatriot Caroline Hedwall of Oklahoma State helped propel Sweden into a 10 stroke lead over second-place Spain.

Reigning NCAA Champion Azahara Munoz led her native Spain into a second place standing after the first round. Munoz is currently tied for third after finishing 1-under 71 on the par-72 West Course. Munoz' Spanish teammate and fellow Sun Devil Carlota Ciganda finished the first round tied for 31st. She shot a 3-over 75 on the par-72 West Course.

Incoming freshman Giulia Molinaro is tied for 44th after shooting a 4-over 76 in the first round. Juliana Murcia capped the first round tied for 70th. The junior shot a 6-over 78 on the par-72 West Course.
