Lawrie Strikes Out 18 As Huskies Shutout Redhawks

SEATTLE - UW junior Danielle Lawrie pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out 18 batters in seven innings, leading the Husky softball team to an 8-0 victory over Seattle University on the first day of the Husky Softball Fall Classic.
The Huskies scored single runs in the first and sixth innings but put the game away in the third when they plated six runs. The first four batters in the inning all reached base on singles setting up Morgan Stuart's two-run double which put UW ahead 4-0. Three batters later, senior Ashley Charters cleared the bases with a three-run double to cap off the rally.
Lawrie, who redshirted the 2008 season while she trained with the Canadian National Team, was in control throughout, not allowing a hit until the sixth inning.
The Husky Softball Fall Classic continues Saturday with six games scheduled starting at 8 a.m. The Huskies will play Central Washington at 2:40 p.m. and Simon Fraser at 4:20 p.m. Six games will also take place on Sunday, with UW hitting the field at 1 p.m. and 2:40 p.m.
