Arizona losses to No. 5 Cal
Oct. 11, 2008
Behind a season-low hitting percentage, the Arizona volleyball team (12-5, 2-3) lost 3-0 to No. 5 California Saturday night in Berkeley, Calif.
The Wildcat struggled most of the night against the Golden Bears, hitting .120 on the evening and recording a season-low 30 kills, while falling 25-18, 25-19, 25-20.
Senior Brooke Buringrud led the team with nine kills and a .318 hitting percentage in the loss. The outside hitter also recorded five digs and one block.
California controlled most of the match by getting out ahead early in each set. Arizona made a brief comeback in the third set, but could never overtake the nationally ranked Bears.
Arizona best performance came in the third set, hitting .231, but so did was Cal’s, who hit .379.
This was the Wildcats third loss in row to a top-12 team and the team’s longest such streak of the season.
Arizona schedule doesn’t get any easier next weekend when the team returns to McKale to take on No. 8 UCLA and No. 11 USC. The Wildcats face the Bruins Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and the Women of Troy Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
