Huskies Win Two Games in Fall Tournament

SEATTLE - The University of Washington softball team won both of their games Saturday on day two of the Husky Softball Fall Classic at Husky Softball Stadium, knocking off Central Washington, 6-1, and shutting out Simon Fraser, 12-0, to improve to 5-0 in their fall exhibition season.
Against Central Washington, UW scored two runs in the first and single runs each in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings and freshman pitcher Felecia Harris kept the Wildcats at bay in the 6-1 victory. Alicia Blake led the way with a pair of run-scoring singles and Ashley Charters, Niki Williams and Ashlyn Watson added an RBI each. Ashley Fox connected on a home run for Central's only hit and run of the game.
In the Huskies' second game of the day, Danielle Lawrie struck out 12 batters and allowed just three hits and UW erupted for eight runs in the third inning in the 12-0 victory. Jessica Ventoza started the scoring for UW in the second inning with a two-run home run to right field. In the third, Alicia Blake and Niki Williams each knocked in two runs, while Felecia Harris, Morgan Stuart, Ashley Charters and Bailey Stenson also drove in runs to make the score 10-0. Ashley Tuiasosopo added a sacrifice fly and Taylor Smith had a RBI single in the fifth to cap the scoring.
UW plays its final two games of the fall on Sunday at 1 p.m. and 2:40 p.m. Tournament games will begin at 8 a.m. at Husky Softball Field.
Game 1 - Western Washington 4, Seattle 0
Meghan Flem hit a three-run home run in the first inning and Morgan Parkerson added an RBI single in the fourth, backing the combined six-hit shutout by Stephanie Fox and Sarah McEnroe
Game 2 - Western Washington 6, Lower Columbia College 1
Jordan Emmil cranked a three-run double in the first and Andrea Sherrill added some insurance with a two-run home run in the fourth. Alyssa Malland shut down the Red Devils to earn the victory for the Vikings.
Game 3 - Lower Columbia College 2, Simon Fraser 0
Camy Way's two-run home run in the sixth inning broke a scoreless tie to give the Red Devils the victory. Aly Rae earned the victory in the circle for LCC.
Game 4 - Central Washington 3, Seattle 0
The Wildcats got an RBI double from Holly Rossman in the third and two-run single by Jackie Hawkins in the fourth to back Lindy Baxter who threw the shutout for CWU.
