Toby Gerhart Named Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Week
Oct. 13, 2008
STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford running back Toby Gerhart has been named the Pac-10's Offensive Player of the Week on the strength of his performance against Arizona, in which he rushed for 116 yards on 24 carries, including the game winning touchdown with 0:25 left in the game.
Saturday marked the fourth 100-yard rushing game on the season for Gerhart, which is the most by a Stanford back since Brian Allen also recorded four 100-yard games in 2001. With 641 yards in rushing yards at the seven-game mark of the season, Gerhart needs 359 more yards to become Stanford's first 1,000-yard rusher since Tommy Vardell ran for a single-season record 1,084 yards in '91.
Gerhart currently ranks fourth in the Pac-10 and 33rd nationally with a 91.6 per game rushing average.
Gerhart's selection marks the second time this season a Stanford player has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week. Wopamo Osaisai was tabbed the conference's defensive player of the week following his performance in the season opener against Oregon State.
Stanford, 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the Pac-10 Conference, travels to the Rose Bowl this Saturday for a showdown with UCLA. The game will be televised live in the Bay Area on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area and broadcast on KTRB 860 AM.
