STOCKTON, Calif. - Washington State women's swim team finished its first day of competition at the TYR Pacific Invite Friday.
Three individual and one relay first place finish helped the Cougars take the lead at the end of day one finishing with 452 points, 114 points ahead of second-place Oregon State (338).
Freshman Rachael Krager had the race of the day claiming the first place position in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:20.74. Krager took over the lead with 400 yards left to go in the race and outraced Jayme Swalin and KC Albiston both of Pacific.
'I was impressed by the way the team stepped up today,' WSU Head Coach Erica Quam said. 'We're going to continue to focus on the end of the season and training comes first. Tomorrow we want to focus on our turns, starts and basic fundamentals.'
The Cougars will continue racing Saturday beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the final day of the Pacific Invite.
