WSU Tennis Ends Strong Run At ITA Northwest Regional

PULLMAN, Wash.- The Washington State women's tennis team ended its run at the ITA Northwest Regional Saturday. The team fought tough during the first two days of the event, but failed to send anyone past the round of 32.
In singles play, freshman Elisabeth Fournier suffered her first loss of the season after she fell to No. 21 Katrina Zheltova of Sacramento State, 6-0, 6-3 ending her run at the tournament.
Senior Aleksandra Cekic's run in the tournament ended after hard fought match in the round of 32 to Stanford's Veronica Li, 6-4, 6-4.
In singles consolation play, freshman Ioana Oprea earned a victory over Marie Demarath of Eastern Washington, 3-6, 6-0, 6-0. Marina Nicolas posted a three set victory over Nevada's Katrina Huba, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles consolation play, Ekaterina Kamendova and Ioana Oprea posted an, 8-5, victory over Oregon's Pavlina Smatova and Stephanie MacFarlane. Jessica Gomez and Marina Nicolas also picked up a doubles victory against Oregon as they defeated Claudia Hirt and Carmen Seremeta, 9-7.
