Cats Fall to #3 Bruins
Oct. 19, 2008
Tucson- The Arizona women’s soccer team (8-6, 1-2) knew that the third ranked UCLA Bruins (12-0-2, 4-0) would be a difficult opponent. Before entering Sunday’s game, the Bruins had outscored their opponents 32-2. The Wildcats struggled to get shots on goal and fell to the Bruins 2-0 at Murphy Field. For Arizona, it was its fourth straight loss at home.
“UCLA is a very good team,” head coach Dan Tobias said after the game. “Since I have been in the Pac-10, this team always wins.”
Even though the Wildcats struggled getting shots, there were some positives coming out of a weekend where they played two of the top teams in the country.
“We played much better today,” Tobias said. “We did everything we could except score. We need to control our tactics better which will lead to us getting better.”
The Bruins jumped out early in the fifth minute when junior Lauren Cheney scored when she spun away from a defender and shot far post and put it in the back of the net.
The score remained 1-0 in favor of UCLA until the 77th minute when Cheney scored again, this time from the left side 18 yards out. Chelsea McIntyre drove, but was unable to make the save. McIntyre finished the game with three saves.
Arizona will make the trip to the Bay school where they will play the Stanford Cardinal at 7:00 p.m.
