All-Stanford ITA Regional Singles Final To Be Played At The Cardinal's Taube Family Tennis Center
Oct. 20, 2008
BERKELEY, Calif. - For the second year in a row, the ITA Regional Singles Final will be from Stanford, as both freshman Bradley Klahn and fourth-ranked sophomore Alex Clayton won their respective semifinal matches today at California's Hellman Varsity Tennis Complex. The two have earned the privilege to square off against one another at 11:30 a.m. at home on the familiar courts of the Taube Family Tennis Center to determine the 2008 ITA Regional Singles Champion.
In the semifinals, Clayton overtook his opponent, Sacramento State's Kiryl Harbatsiuk, convincingly in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. Klahn, the tournament's ninth seed, needed three stanzas to upset Fresno State's second-seeded Rudolf Siwy, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
In doubles action, the fifth-seeded pair of Clayton and Klahn worked together to take down Cal's Kallim Stewart and Thai Tu, 8-3 in the quarterfinals, but fell in the semis eight games to four to the Golden Bears' second-seeded duo of Geoff Chizever and Pedro Zerbini.
Last year's ITA Regional Singles Champion, No. 66 junior Richard Wire, missed a return trip to the finals when he fell to Siwy in this year's quarterfinals.
