Oct. 21, 2008
STANFORD, Calif. - In an all-Stanford singles final, top-seeded, fourth-ranked Alex Clayton defeated ninth-seeded teammate Bradley Klahn in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 this afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium in Stanford, Calif. to conclude play at the 2008 Wilson/ITA Northern Cal Championships hosted by the University of California.
Clayton and Klahn each held serve until the sixth game of the first set, as Clayton only allowed one point to Klahn to steal the game and go up 4-2. Clayton went on to win 6-3.
In the second set, the same scenario occurred, except this time Klahn spoiled the set for Clayton, taking the eighth game to go up 5-3, setting him up for his set victory in the next frame to even things up.
In the final stanza, Clayton finally was able to close in on Klahn, breaking his serve and taking the sixth game from him as he again allowed him only one point in the sequence. Clayton went on to win the next two games and with it, the match, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Clayton will now go on to represent the ITA's West-North Region in the upcoming ITA National Indoor Championships, Nov. 6-9, in Charlottesville, Va.
