Cal Continues Conference Campaign
The No. 22 California women's soccer team (9-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the Pac-10) will take on Arizona State (7-4-3, 1-2-0 Pac-10) on Friday, Oct. 24 at 3:30 p.m. and Arizona (8-6, 1-2 in conference play) on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. The Golden Bears are currently in fourth place in the competitive Pac-10, which has four teams ranked in the top 25. Cal won last seasons' meetings with Arizona State (3-1 on Oct. 26) and Arizona (2-0 on Oct. 28).

Bears Suffer Defeat in the Northwest
Cal lost two close matches on last weekend's road trip to the state of Washington. The Bears' lone goal in Oct. 17's 2-1 loss to Washington State came from senior forward Valerie Barnes. Cal outshot the Cougars, 15-9, and earned 12 corner kicks to WSU's five. On Oct. 19, the Bears held a 2-1 lead before surrendering two Husky goals late in the second half. Barnes came through to get Cal's first score at the 23:13 mark. With the game tied, 1-1, the Bears earned an indirect kick after being fouled in the 68th minute. Sophomore defender/midfielder Megan Jesolva made the first touch and freshman midfielder Katrin Omarsdottir shot from the left side for her second goal of the year. The Huskies scored two goals to take the lead late in the game. The Bears worked for several solid shots on goal in the final 10 minutes, but the UW goalie made three stops in the second half to secure the 3-2 victory for Washington.

Barnes Grabs Goals in Road Games
Valerie Barnes scored in both of Cal's games this weekend. She had the lone goal against the Cougars on Oct. 17 at the 58:08 mark after rebounding the ball in the box following a save by the WSU keeper. The Martinez, Calif., native also had Cal's first goal in the Oct. 19 game against UW. Following a shot from Cal sophomore forward Alex Morgan that was blocked by the Washington keeper, Barnes knocked in the rebound to the lower left corner corner of the goal. The goals were the first two goals Barnes' of her senior campaign.

Scouting the Sun Devils and Wildcats
The Bears have never lost to the Wildcats in the history of the program, sporting an all-time record of 11-0-2. The only Pac-10 victory for Arizona, which will take on No. 5 Stanford on Friday before traveling to Berkeley for Sunday's game, came Oct. 10 in a 2-1 overtime win over in-state rival ASU. Cal holds a 6-4-1 all-time advantage over Arizona State. The Sun Devils upset No. 7 USC at home Oct. 19 for Arizona State's first Pac-10 win and the program's first victory over a team ranked in the top 10 since 2001.
