Perk, Stephens Earn Weekly Honors
Oct. 21, 2008
UCLA juniors Brian Perk and Michael Stephens earned weekly honors after strong performances in a pair of Bruin victories this past weekend. Perk was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week, while Stephens was selected to the Soccer America and College Soccer News Teams of the Week.
Perk totaled nine saves in 174 minutes of action over the weekend as he earned a shutout against No. 23 Washington in a 2-0 UCLA win on Friday. He also made six saves and held Oregon State scoreless for 84 minutes before being subbed out late in a 3-0 victory for the Bruins on Sunday. This is the second career weekly honor for Perk and the 33rd all-time for UCLA.
Stephens earned his first Team of the Week acclaim after scoring the game-winning goal against Oregon State and assisting on a goal in UCLA's win over #23 Washington on Friday. Stephens has recorded six goals and two assists in his last eight games.
The two wins helped the Bruins move into a first-place tie in the Pac-10 Conference with Washington at the halfway mark. The Bruins, who are unbeaten in eight of their last nine games, will face Washington again on Friday night in Seattle in a battle for first place.
