Two straight blocks helped USC get to within five, but Akinradewo put Stanford in cruise control, closing out the set with an 8-2 run to take a 1-0 match lead.

Stanford carried its momentum into the second set with a 7-2 run at the beginning. Roleder gave the Trojans their first sign of life in the match with a kill and service aces for four straight points and a one-point deficit. USC would later tie it at 10-10, but a 6-3 run put Stanford back on top at 16-13. On the strength of two straight kills by Jupiter, USC retook the lead on the 5-1 run at 18-17. Okogbaa's kill started three straight as Stanford retook the lead on Klineman's ace at 20-18. After USC's timeout, Zoe Garrett changed the complexion of the set as her kill and a later block with Gysin capped five straight points. Gysin would tie the match with the set clincher for the Women of Troy.

USC scored four straight to take a 4-1 lead in the third set before Stanford with four of its own and the 5-4 score. At 9-9, USC used a 6-3 lead to the media timeout. Akinradewo sparked a 5-1 run for the Cardinal out of the break to take the 17-16 lead. Both teams traded points before Stanford built its lead to two at 21-19, thanks to kills from Klineman and Akinradewo. Williams and Roleder teamed up for a block and a Cardinal attack error gave USC the lead at 23-22. Klineman steadied the Cardinal with a kill and Barboza went back-to-back as Stanford pulled out the set to take the lead in the match.

In the fourth set, Roleder won the joust to open things as USC raced to the 5-0 lead. Two kills from Klineman helped the Cardinal get back in the set, trailing by one at 7-6. The Women of Troy would push their lead back to five at 13-8, taking advantage of two straight Cardinal errors. Garrett bounced a dome shot off a Cardinal attacker for the 16-10 lead, but Stanford rallied with four straight as Klineman and Akinradewo did the job with kills. Roleder added two kills as USC still led by three at 18-15, but Stanford turned to its blocking game as two stuffs helped to tie it at 18-18. After Akinradewo made it 19-19 on the overpass kill, the Cardinal reeled off four more points to take command at 23-19 and the eventual match victory.

USC hosts No. 4 California tomorrow in a 7 p.m. match at the Galen Center. The match will be broadcast live on usctrojans.com, courtesy of TrojanTV All-Access.
