Stanford In Tie For 14th After First Round Of Isleworth Collegiate Invitational

Oct. 26, 2008

WINDERMERE, Fla. - Sixth-ranked Stanford struggled to get a lead on the field at the Isleworth/UCF Collegiate Invitational in this afternoon's first round, shooting a collective 13-over-par 301.

The Cardinal will have to whittle down its score over the next two rounds if it hopes to catch leader Alabama, which posted a one-under 287.

Sophomore Steve Ziegler tallied the best afternoon for Stanford, firing a one-over-par 73. He is currently tied for 18th. Ziegler recorded four birdies on the day.

The rest of the Cardinal is not far behind Ziegler, either. Freshman David Chung completed the day in a tie for 35th, notching a three-over-par 75. Chung struggled in the back nine, but turned in a one-under-par performance on the front nine, courtesy of an eagle on the par-five seventh hole.

Sophomore Sihwan Kim posted a four-over-par 76 to put himself in a tie for 47th, and senior Dodge Kemmer and junior Joseph Bramlett each carded a five-over-par 77 to tie for 59th.

Filling out the top-5 team spots on the leaderboard behind Alabama is Indiana in second, USC in third, and Texas Tech and Georgia in a tie for fourth. Individually, the Hoosiers' Jorge Campillo and the Crimson Tide's Matthew Swan share the lead with a four-under 68.

Play will resume tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. Stanford is set to tee off at 8:49 a.m. from the 10th hole.
