USC Women Host Exhibition Game Tuesday
Oct. 27, 2008
The USC women's basketball team kicks off the coming 2008-09 season with exhibition action this week. The Women of Troy have invited Love & Basketball to the Galen Center to give USC some early opposition. The Trojans will face Love & Basketball at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 28) in exhibition play.
The exhibition match offers the first competition for the Women of Troy, who started official practices on October 17. USC is coming off a 17-13 record in the 2007-08 season in which the Trojans finished fourth in the Pac-10 at 10-8. With seniors Brynn Cameron, Camille LeNoir and Nadia Parker leading the way as USC's returning All-Pac-10 honorees, the Trojans have nine letterwinners back for this 2008-09 campaign. In fact, six of USC's top seven scorers are back for more, including the Trojans' top three point producers Cameron, LeNoir and junior guard Heather Oliver. All told, USC returns those three starters along with Cameron -- who matched LeNoir with 40 threes last year -- sophomore center Kari LaPlante and versatile juniors Hailey Dunham and Aarika Hughes as key contributors from the 2007-08 squad.
That load of talent and experience will combine forces with a solid set of newcomers to Troy, namely guards Ashley Corral, Briana Gilbreath and Daniela Roark and forward Michelle Jenkins. Two Trojan All-Americans will be sidelined again this season, however, as knee injuries have taken guards Jacki Gemelos and Stefanie Gilbreath off the court for 2008-09.
Traditionally, the Love & Basketball squad is comprised of former collegiate players. After facing the Women of Troy on Tuesday, Love & Basketball is also scheduled to play exhibition games at UCLA, Vanderbilt Tennessee as preseason warmups for those teams.
