UCLA to Host 4th Annual CordeValle Collegiate
Oct. 31, 2008
UCLA will host the 4th annual CordeValle Collegiate, Nov. 3-5, at the CordeValle Country Club in San Martin, Calif.
'We are especially grateful to Jack and Rhodine Gifford for their support of this event,' said Head Coach Derek Freeman. 'Without their generosity, this tournament would not be possible. Their support of our program has been tremendous and greatly appreciated, and their endorsement of college golf has been outstanding. We cannot thank them enough.'
The 12-team field features six teams ranked in the nation's Top 40 and four among the Top 10: No.2 Arkansas, third-ranked USC, No. 6 Stanford and ninth-ranked Washington. The Bruins are rated 57th in the latest GolfWeek poll after losing six players from the 2008 team that won the national championship and four additional tournaments.
The Bruins have won two of the three previous CordeValle events, and expect to contend for the 2008 crown. Last year, UCLA produced the team champion and sophomore James Lee was one of three players who tied for the title. A wrist injury will keep Lee off the course at CordeValle, but the other winners, Stanford's Sihwan Kim and Augusta State's Henrik Norlander will be competing.
CordeValle Country Club will play to a par of 72 over 7,169 yards. Tournament format will be 18 holes of stroke play Nov. 3-5 with players starting off the first and 10th tees beginning at 8 a.m. PST each day. Team format will be six players count five. Results will be carried live by GolfStat and sports information services will be provided by Santa Clara University.
