WSU Defeats Gonzaga for Second Straight Week

Oct. 31, 2008

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University women's rowing team hosted a windy and rainy Head of the Snake Friday, competing against the Gonzaga Bulldogs for the second straight week.

Throughout the first couple of flights a strong headwind worked against both teams, until they made the turn in the last 1,000 meters of the 5,000 meter course to stroke for the finish line. A thick rain passed through, but the wind died and the boats benefited from smoother water.

Leading off the regatta, the Cougar varsity eight boat earned the top time of the day, 20:29.01, defeating the Bulldogs for the second week in a row, this time by a 26 second margin.

The second and third varsity eight boats also claimed victory, finishing with times of 21:13.85, and 20:56.29 respectively.

The results of the novice races have not been finalized, but will be posted Saturday morning.
