Nov. 1, 2008
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The California men's tennis team completed the second day of play at the 2008 UNLV Rebel Classic without a win today. The Golden Bears were eliminated from contention after going 0-3 in today's matches. The three-day tournament features players from host UNLV, Fresno State, Arizona, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Fresno Pacific on the courts of the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev.
No. 64-ranked junior Kallim Stewart faced No. 49 Elliot Wronski in the first-flight singles semifinal and couldn't earn a game against the UNLV senior in the first set. He next fell 6-4 in the second set to complete his run at the Classic.
In doubles play, sophomores Jonathan Dahan and Bozhidar Katsarov fell in an 8-5 decision to Fresno State's Remi Boutillier and Rikus de Villiers in the quarterfinal. Stewart and freshman Thai Tu went all the way to a tiebreaker with UNLV's Wronski and Luca Barlocchi in the semifinal but could only muster four points in the breaker falling to the host team's top doubles pair.
Play conclude tomorrow (Nov. 2) with matches beginning at 9 a.m. with the singles and doubles finals. For complete results, visit www.unlvrebels.com and point your browser to the men's tennis page.
