GymDawgs Journal - Danielle Henderson

Hey Dawg fans!
Last week was a great week in the gym. I would first like to congratulate Kristen Omori for being our Top Dawg of the week! After suffering a torn ACL last season, she has been working really had to get back into shape for this season. We all look forward to seeing her back on the floor this year!
As for me, my role on the team has changed in the past few weeks. After having three shoulder surgeries and several talks with our team physicians, I've made the decision to be medically disqualified. It was a very tough decision, as gymnastics has been apart of my life for several years, but I believe this decision is the best for my future. My teammates all stood by me, and supported me through this hard time. I am happy to say that I still get to spend everyday with them, and be a part of this team. However, instead of practicing and competing, I am now the student coach. It is definitely a different role, but I am thankful that I still get to be apart of the UW gymnastics family, because being a part of this family is an experience unlike anything else.
On Halloween we had a fun intra-squad in the gym with two local judges. It was a great way to see where the team stands at this point, and we got a lot of insight from the judges. I was really proud of the entire freshman class. They carried themselves well, and they are all wonderful additions to this team! As a whole, we still have some work to do, but we are well on our way to an awesome season! Our next big checkpoint will be on November 24th when we have an intra-squad in the arena. We look forward to seeing you all there!
