Chizever and Zerbini Head to ITA National Indoor Championships

Nov. 4, 2008

BERKELEY, Calif. - The California men's tennis team will be represented by its top doubles team at the upcoming ITA National Indoor Championships as senior Geoff Chizever and sophomore Pedro Zerbini head to Charlottesville, Va. for the final event of the fall season. Played out on the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar's Head Sports Club, the four-day tournament features one field of 32 singles players and one field of 16 doubles teams. The Golden Bear duo earned one of 16 berths in the field by virtue of their run to the doubles title at the Wilson/ITA Northern Cal Championships.

Chizever and Zerbini hold a 9-2 record this fall but are 30-13 in all matches together since Zerbini arrived on campus in the fall of 2007. The team claimed an 8-4 victory over Alex Clayton and Bradley Klahn of Stanford in the semifinal of the Wilson/ITA regional championship before taking out Patrik Fischer and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan of Washington in an 8-5 match.

The Cal women are also at the indoor championships this weekend with sophomore No. 7 Marina Cossou, and seniors No. 22 Claire Ilcinkas and No. 65 Bojana Bobusic participating in the singles field of 32.
