Nov. 6, 2008
PULLMAN, Wash. -- For the second straight year, Washington State's Brittany Johnson has been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII second team for University Division Women's Volleyball as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Johnson, a senior outside hitter from Phoenix, Ariz., was named to the five-member District VIII 2008 second team. She has a 3.80 grade point average and is majoring in both management information systems and organizational management with a minor in finance, and will graduate in December 2008. She has already accepted a position with an information technology consulting firm in Phoenix and will begin working in March 2009.
One of three captains of this year's Cougar volleyball team, Johnson is a four-year starter who has accumulated 1,052 career kills, which is seventh-best in WSU history, and needs only two more kills to move into sixth place. Johnson also has 71 solo blocks and is fifth on that all-time list.
In addition to Johnson's two second-team selections, she was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Dist. VIII third team selection in 2006. Johnson was a first team Pac-10 All-Academic selection in 2007, and a second-team selection in 2006.
To be eligible for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must be a significant contributor to the team, and be in at least their second season at their current school. District VIII includes schools in the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and British Columbia.
