Clayton Falls In Round Of 32 At ITA National Indoor Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - In a three-hour match, fourth-ranked sophomore Alex Clayton fell to Notre Dame's No. 25 Brett Helgeson in his first match at the ITA National Indoor Championships today, ending his contention for the singles title.

Clayton was victorious in the first set, winning six games to three, before falling in a second set tiebreaker 7-6(5). In the third set, Clayton battled, but couldn't best Helgeson, who advanced into the Round of 16 with a 7-5 third-set victory.

Clayton will continue to play in the tournament at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va. in the consolation bracket. Consolation matches will be drawn later this evening and will begin tomorrow.
