TEMPE, Ariz. - Nikole Afusia of the softball team and Zach Wilson of the baseball team have been named Student-Athletes of the Month, the Office of Student-Athlete Development announced.
Afusia, a freshman, is a very diligent student that works extremely hard in the classroom. She has put in countless hours in the ICA working with her mentor and completing study hall hours. She has also completed community service in the form of Sparky's Tour and Race for the Cure. Afusia has a very contagious, outgoing personality and has the ability to make everyone around her better. She is a natural leader and will be a valuable asset to ASU throughout her career.
Wilson is a freshman kinesiology major, and while juggling extremely difficult courses and baseball his first semester in college, he has been a true role model for his teammates. He puts in an incredible amount of time both at the field practicing and in the ICA studying. On average, he spends between 12-15 hours per week meeting with tutors, mentors and studying. He is always the first to complete requirements and is always organized. Wilson has also participated in community service events including the Sandlot program through ASU Baseball and the Tempe Homeless Project.
